Bunch Saffron (Dasteh) consists of whole saffron threads both red stigma and yellow style offering a natural mix of color. About 75% is red and 25% is yellow-white. Though it has less coloring power than Negin, Pushal, or Sargol, it’s the most widely traded type among farmers.
Grade 4 Bunch Saffron consists of the red stigmas of Crocus sativus L. attached to substantial portions of the yellow-to-white style. Also known as Dasteh or Dokhtar Pich saffron, this traditional form preserves more of the flower’s original filament structure and has a distinctive two-tone appearance.
Unlike Sargol, Negin and Super Negin, Bunch saffron is not composed exclusively of separated red stigmas. The attached lighter style gives the threads a natural and less extensively processed appearance. To compare its structure with other varieties, read our guide to the Types of Iranian Saffron.
Quality testing recorded a crocin value of 150, compared with the specified minimum of 140. Safranal was measured at 37, picrocrocin at 85 and moisture and volatile matter at 6.73%. The product also tested negative for added artificial colour.
Bunch saffron can be gently crushed and infused for use in rice dishes, soups, sauces, teas, desserts, cakes and other recipes. The preserved filament structure also makes it suitable for buyers who prefer saffron with a visibly natural combination of red stigma and lighter style.
The labour required to harvest and separate saffron filaments is one of the subjects covered in our guide, Why Is Saffron So Expensive?. Buyers comparing grades, test results, quantities and packaging formats can also review the factors affecting the current saffron price.
The product is supplied in a 28 g paperboard canister that helps limit exposure to light and external contact before use. Each master box contains 24 individual canisters.
